The Aqua Dots toy beads were imported by Spin Master, based in Toronto with a subsidiary in Los Angeles, in 2007. The toys were recalled after tests showed they were coated with a chemical that, when ingested, can metabolize into the so-called “date-rape” drug gamma hydroxybutyrate (GHB). The compound can induce unconsciousness, seizures, drowsiness, coma and death.
The couple also failed to get medical treatment for the boy’s seizure disorder, leaving him to suffer through as many as 12 seizures a day. Doctors said their cumulative effect, combined with the malnutrition, left the child bedridden at 14 — unable to speak, walk or even support his own body weight….. The girls were in poor physical condition and struggled to read and write. Although home-schooled, they arrived barely able to grip a pencil, and had never been shown how to use a toothbrush.

According to the police report, the officer found the boy lying on a bed in a fetal position. The officer stated the boy was trembling and “clearly in severe pain.” The officer said the boy’s upper body was covered in welts, bruises and swelling. He reported seeing similar injuries on the boys’ arms, with the left arm appearing to be broken. Additionally, the officer reported the 8-year-old sustained injuries to his leg where his father allegedly struck him with the belt.

Judge Robert Peeler announced his decision Thursday afternoon after a four-day bench trial. She faces a maximum 80 years in prison.
Schuler was accused of plying five former students with alcohol and then having sex with them in her Springboro home in the fall of 2010. She plead not guilty by reason of insanity in July.
