Detectives said the investigation began when officers were called to an area near South Seventh and West Lapham streets after the woman in custody called 911 on Thursday saying she gave birth to a baby who was not breathing.
Officers said paramedics arrived to find the child dead and a 33-year-old woman who claimed to have just given birth to the boy.

In January 2010, Brandon Lockett claimed Aveion had been taken for a $10,000 ransom by kidnappers, sparking a highly publicized hunt for the missing toddler. He later told police his stepson had choked while eating a honey bun and said the body had been disposed of by a friend he knew only as “Jose.”
After a lengthy search, Aveion’s body was found two weeks later, wrapped in plastic and badly damaged, in a Roanoke County landfill.
He had suffered an untreated broken arm and the backs of his legs sustained untreated second-degree burns, the prosecutor said. Witnesses told police that, prior to his death, Aveion was made to sleep on an uncovered mattress that investigators found was blood-stained and soaked with urine, Workman said.

The couple is also accused of the murder of Pedersen’s stepmother Leslie Pedersen and father 56-year-old David Jones “Red” Pedersen. A fourth victim. Reginald Allen Clark, was identified Monday in Eureka, California.
David Pedersen told The Appeal Democrat that he killed his father, David Jones Pedersen, because he molested his older sister when she was younger. He said it was “his responsibility to make sure it didn’t happen again.”

The father and the dog owner, who is the boy’s great-uncle, attempted to stop the attack but were unable to control the dog, Sgt. Scott Reineke said in a press release. The father then grabbed a knife and stabbed the dog several times in the jaw, freeing the boy.
