COLLECTIONS OF FACTS

Please be advised that according to a 1991 United States Supreme Court ruling, it was established that collections of facts are indeed copyrightable if the collection is unique to the author.

For example: If I were to copy the entire telephone directory, that collection of facts would not be copyrightable because the collection existed prior to me.

On the other hand, if 10,000 child abuse cases are reported on January 1st and I pick 60 of those cases to put into a daily collection – that collection IS copyrightable because the collection did not exist prior to the author and requires the creativity of selection on the part of the author.

As such, and upon legal consultation, please be advised that the daily collections of facts on this website, Child Abuse Headlines.Com that are unique to this website, are indeed protected under United States Copyright Law as per the 1991 U.S. Supreme Court decision.

What this means is that no matter how good you think your “cause” is, it’s still illegal to commit a theft of intellectual property. For ex. Lets say that you advocate for crime victims. It would still be illegal if you went to the NY Times.Com, a commercial website, and pulled large amounts of their crime stories and posted it elsewhere.

EXCUSES, EXCUSES

To say, “we’re all in it together”, “it’s for the good of the victims”, “it’s not a competition” and such are nothing more than excuses, made by people currently stealing, to try and justify copyright violations, to justify theft.

Bottom Line: We have U.S. Copyright laws in this country and they must be respected and adhered to.
