NYC – CPS TO LAYOFF 541 WORKERS & CUT 600 POSITIONS!
New York City ACS (Administration for Children’s Services) Commisioner, John Mattingly, announced that due to budget cuts, he would be laying off over 541 workers and cutting 600 positions! Critics are saying that the cuts will endanger many of the reforms to ACS that both Mattingly and the NYC Mayor, Michael Bloomberg instituted after the 2006 murder of 7 year old, Nixzmary Brown. Nixzmary was murdered by her stepfather but ACS was widely critised as they had many attempts to save Nixzmary’s life and dropped the ball due to laziness and incompetance! Mattingly has responded that the cuts won’t effect frontline workers who go out into the field to investigate but would effect office workers. Mattingly was also critisized for not resiting the cuts more aggressively from the Mayor’s administration.
I really hope this is not another disaster in the making and what Mattingly said about the ACS workers on the frontline not being effected is true. Some of those front line workers are so imcompetant that I’m almost sorry that they aren’t the ones being fired and new people who actually care about kids and know what they’re doing are brought in!!
