WI – NEW LAW REQUIRES ALARMS IN DAY CARE VEHICLES

Milwaukee,WI. Governor Jim Doyle just signed into law a new requirement that all day care vehicles must now be installed with alarms to prevent kids from mistakenly being left inside and dying from heat.

The Jalen Knox-Perkins Day Care Van Alarm Bill requires day care centers to install in some vehicles alarms that must be manually turned off when the vehicle is parked. The alarm button goes in the rear of vans, forcing drivers to walk to the back and, in theory, check each seat along the way.

The new law is named after a 4 month old baby boy named Jalen Knox-Perkins who died last month after the driver picked him up but mistakenly left him inside the van. All the windows were rolled up and there was a blanket and jacket over little Jaylen. He died from heat exposure.

Personally, I think all parents and foster parents should have alarms in their vehicles. This alarm can help save a child’s life. Kudos to the Governor for signing this into law. All states need to have this law!
